It ranks in the group of magmatic or eruptive rock because it was formed by magma’s consolidation , of a fluid mass of volcanic origin , found at a very high temperature, inside the Earth cortex. Its solidification and chemical composition, therefore, are the result of a rapid cooling and the decrease of pressure suffered by the magma while exiting from the deepness of earth and having a rapid contact with Earth’s atmosphere. It is composed by 70% silica , 14% alumina and lesser percentages of iron, calcium and magnesium.
